The department of Economics was established in the year 1884 with 6 faculty members. The department working with certain broad objectives, to train students in the sphere of economics and inculcated application of economic knowledge in the day-to-day life and in the public. Since its Inception the department of Economics has been trained hundreds of students in economics the students who studied in this college of various top positions at state and national level the person like B.V.Pattabhiram, a great writer, Psychologist and magician was a student of this great department.
After getting autonomous status in 2001 department of Economics changed its course of academic activities by adopting autonomous status rules the department of Economics is updating it syllabus by conducting Board of Studies meeting every year in the beginning of the economic in the board of studies through discussions have taken place to revise the curriculum to cattle the needs of stakeholder students the college administration provided a computer and also provided LCD room to use ICT in teaching and learning process
Now the department of Economics as 3 sanctioned post catering the needs of 500 Students by importing knowledge and making the students as good citizens
The department of Economics introduced a new course for BA students with Mathematics, Statistics and Economics during the academic year 2006-07 the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Hyderabad, AP granted permission to start m a Economics during the academic year 2010-11 the college Development Council of Andhra University to which our college is affiliated extended its support to start MA Economics program from 2011-12 academic year. However, later on due to uneconomical strength MA Economics program has been stopped.
